Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid al Zayani
Secretary General, GCC for the Arab States of the Gulf

Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid al Zayani became a Commissioned Officer in the Bahrain Defence Force in 1973 following his graduation from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Dr. Zayani went on to gain an undergraduate degree in aeronautical engineering, a Master’s Degree in Operations Research and finally gained his PhD in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Dr. Zayani also went onto participate in the Leaders Development Program from Harvard University.

In 2004, Dr. Zayani was transferred to the Ministry of the Interior, where he assumed the role of the Chief of Public Security. Within the role, Dr. Zayani was responsible for all aspects of security and safety within the Kingdom. In 2010, Dr. Zayani was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. Following his career in the military, Dr. Zayani was appointed the advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 10th June 2010. Just under a year later, on the 1st April 2011, Dr. Zayani was appointed the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

H.E. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa
Minister of Finance, Bahrain

Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa is the Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Bahrain. He has served as a Director since 1997 and Governor since 2001 of the Bahrain Monetary Agency.  He serves as a Director of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company. Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalifa is the Chairman of The Social Insurance Organisation, The Future Generation Reserve Council, and The Development Committee of World Bank. He is a Member of the Board of Governors of The World Bank, The International Monetary Fund, The International Finance Corporation, The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, The Arab Monetary Fund, The Islamic Development Bank, The Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development, The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, The Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation and The Arab Authority for Agriculture Investment and Development. He graduated from St Edwards University, Austin, Texas with an M.B.A.

News Anchor, Al Arabiya News Channel

Nadine Hani is an anchor for Al Arabiya News Channel based in Dubai, where she presents and co-produces the financial news programs “Al Aswaq Al Arabiya”, the highest rated business news shows on Arab television. She has also covered and reported from major international events and conferences, including the IMF and World Bank annual meetings, and the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 in Davos. Nadine is often asked to moderate high profile conferences such as the panels at the World Economic Forum. Dr. Mohammed Ali Amin

Dr. Mohammed has been involved in the development of the Finance Scheme for SMEs in Bahrain since the early stages. The Finance Scheme began as a pilot with one bank and partnered with Bahrain Development Bank who has become a strategic partner. The finance scheme is now provided through 10 banks which include SME finance as well as a portion of finance toward microfinance (individuals and small organizations).
Dr. Mohammed is also involved in other various projects for SME Development namely the Information and Communication Technology Scheme, Business Diversification (Pilot), and work in progress scheme for Export Credit Insurance in coordination with a team at Bahrain Development Bank.

Mahmood Al Kooheji
CEO, Mumtalakat

Mr. Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Member of Executive Committee at Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company. He began his career in BAPCO as an Industrial Engineer before joining the Ministry of Finance and National Economy (MOFNE) in 1988. From 1994 to 2005, Mr. Al Kooheji served as the Director of Government Shareholdings Directorate before being appointed as an Assistant Undersecretary of Economic Affairs. During this time he was actively involved in the Bahrain Economic Development Board’s initiative which led to the establishment of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company B.S.C. (c).
Mr. Al Kooheji serves as the Chairman of the Board and Director of Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (c). He also serves on a number of boards in the Kingdom of Bahrain and outside the country. Mr. Al Kooheji received an M.B.A. from the Henley College of Management, Brunel University and a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire University.

Mr. Nedhal Al Aujan

Mr. Suhail Al Gosaibi

Dr. Khalid Abdullah

Acknowledged for his commitment to social and economic development at a national level, Dr Khalid Abdulla has a number of affiliations, including his position as Vice Chairman at the Economic & Financial Studies Committee, as member of the National Committee on World Trading Organization, and as member at the Bahrain Economic Society. Ms. Ibtisam Abdulrahman Hijris
Member of Parliament, Bahrain

Ibtisam Al Hejris is a Member of Parliament and has been a Guest and speaker at many regional, local and international functions. She is a specialist in the areas of public relation and business management and public administration consultant in insuring companies.
Her pioneering work includes the Al Badwan unified dress company. She is the Vice President of Young Entrepreneurs in Bahrain. She has a Higher Diploma in International Management from Great Britain and completed an Entrepreneurship Development Program. Her University studies were in foreign trade.

Mr. Yousif Abdulla Ali Humood
Asst. Undersecretary of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance-Bahrain

Mr.  Yousif A. Hamood is the Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance  where he is also the Director of Economic Planning and the Head of International Economic Relations. He has a vast international education spanning Syria, Jordan, UK and USA specializing in Economic and Project Planning as well as Executive Development programs. He is also a board member of both the Arab Investment Company and the Central Bank of Bahrain.

Mr. Adel Hassan Al AAli
Second Vice-Chairman, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Mr. Adel Hassan Al-Aali is the Second Vice-Chairman of the Bahrain Chambers of Commerce. Having studied in both the UK and USA, he holds several degrees in Business Administration, Management Studies as well as participating in the Stanford Senior Executive Program. After restructuring his family business, he helped the development of the Haji Hassan Group and was instrumental in the company’s expansion into the Gulf Region and has since been a board member and part owner. He is the chairman of Ibn Al Nafees Hospital, as well as holding executive and director posts with Al Ahlia Insurance Company, United Insurance Company, United Precast Concrete in Doha and Dubai, Bahrain Bulk Trade as well as Al-Wasat Newspaper.

Mr. Sameer Saeed
General Manager, Oman Development Bank

The General Manager of ODB since May 2003, he has rescued and transformed the bank into an institution with commercial rigour, a wider product range and financially self sufficient institution whilst maintaining its developmental role.
Previously, Samir worked for 17 years with ATB, a Tunisian subsidiary of the Arab Bank Group. As Deputy General Manager in charge of loans, he materially improved the commercial banking operations and established the investment banking activity of the bank. He reviewed, analysed, valued and structured several deals co-originated by and co-financed with the Venture Capital sister company.

Mr. Abdul Basit Janahi
CEO, Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment – UAE

Abdul Baset Al Janahi is the CEO of the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for SME development. In MBRE, Al Janahi pioneered the entrepreneurial development process from scratch which enabled the development of entrepreneurs. This covered the core pillars of Development Advisory, Incubation, Funding, Capability Development and Market Access. To facilitate access by SMEs to market opportunities, key agreements with several leading private and public sector organisations to offer exclusive privileges to members of the Establishment were secured. This initiative not only succeeded in helping start-ups and SMEs secure their first business contracts, but also raised the community’s awareness about the importance of SMEs to the growth of the economy. Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Mansoori

Mr. Ibrahim Al Mansoori is the CEO of Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, the Government entity established in 2007 to foster entrepreneurship and develop thriving and competitive SMEs in the UAE. Mr. Al Mansoori has been a key member in the success of Khalifa Fund. He has been involved actively in developing financial products, setting up processes, structures and relationships with other entities, both locally and internationally. Mr. Al Mansoori has vast experience in various domains, such as manufacturing, Investment, Utilities, Financial & Audit Institutions as well as Telecommunication. Dr. Ibrahim Al Hnaishel

Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz bin Hunaishel Alhunaishel, after finishing his degree at the King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, completed his Ph.D. in Information Technology management at the University of Northern Iowa, USA.
On completion, to took up the role of Professor of Business Administration at both the Commercial Secondary Institute and then the College of Technology in Riyadh where he was also Director of the Scholarships Department. He then moved to Undersecretary of the College of Technology and became Director General of Training Affairs in the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. This led to becoming Director of the small and medium enterprises development Center in The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation followed by Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship Centre. He now holds the post of Director General of Saudi Credit and Saving Bank .

H.H Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa al Khalifa
Executive Director of inJAZ – Bahrain

As a scholar and member of the royal family of Bahrain, H.H Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa al Khalifa has used her skills and status to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of young Bahrainis, and to promote women’s rights. She earned her Bachelors degree in Management (1998) and Masters degree in Social Policy and Planning (2002) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a graduate of Young Enterprise, Junior Achievement in the UK.
In 2005, H.H Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa al Khalifa founded a nonprofit organization called inJAz Bahrain, a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, to provide young people with a hands-on business and economic education so they will be prepared when seeking employment and more likely to succeed. She became the Executive Director working with a Board of Directors in leading the private sector organizations of Bahrain.

Ms. Afnan Rashid Al Zayani
Board Member, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Ms. Afnan Rashid Al Zayani, one of the leading businesswomen in the Kingdom of Bahrain , is the President of Al Zayani Commercial Services WLL., a group which was established in1980. She is also a Director and partner of Martinising Laundry and Dry Cleaners, and Director of the Al Ayam Printing and Publishing Company in Bahrain.
Ms. Al Zayani is a founder and senior officer of the “Bahrain Businessmen’s Association”. She was President of that body between 2002-2004. Ms. Al-Zayani is also active in the “Bahrain Businesswomen Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry”, and the “Gulf Businesswomen Committee” of the Federation of G.C.C Chambers of Commerce. Ms. Zayani is, additionally, an accomplished cook with several best-selling cookery books to her credit. She has hosted a number of TV cookery shows, and also has been the recipient of numerous civic and professional awards such as Bahrain ‘s “National Achievement Award” in 1992 and the “Best Business Professional In The Middle East Award” in 2004.

Ms. Muna AbuSulayman

Muna Abu Sulaiman, is an influential Arab and Muslim Media personality. She is also the former founding Secretary General of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal’s Kingdom Holding Company and co-host of one of MBC TV’s most popular social programs, Kalam Nawaem (“Softly Speaking”).

She has spoken and written about issues related to society, women rights, community development, media, and building bridges of understanding between the East and West. In 2004, Ms. AbuSulayman was named a Young Leader by the World Economic Forum. In 2007, she became the first woman from Saudi Arabia to be appointed by the United Nations Development Program as a Goodwill Ambassador. As a goodwill ambassador she is often invited to promote certain humanitarian causes such as Tetenus Shot Campaign in 2011 for Yemen. In 2007, the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute presented Ms. AbuSulayman the Achievements in Regional and International Relations Award. In 2009, she was named one of the most influential Muslims in the world.

Dr. Hashim Hussain
Arab Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship & Investment (UNIDO)

Dr. Hashim S. Hussein is Head of United Nations Industrial Development Organization – Investment and Technology Promotion Office (UNIDO-ITPO)/ the Arab Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship and Investment Training (ARCEIT) – Kingdom of Bahrain; a post that he has held with great distinction. Dr. Hussein has rich experience in the field of Industrial Development and Investment and Technology Promotion for over seventeen years. He holds a PhD (Honors) in International Law of the Sea from the Universite de Nantes, France.
He obtained a Doctoral Research Programme from University of Maryland at College Park, Centre for International Development and Conflict Management (CIDCM), Maryland, U.S.A in the year 1989. Dr Hussein has worked at various responsibility levels in different countries such as USA, Egypt, Sudan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. He joined UNIDO in 1991 as a Program Officer posted in the Kingdom of Bahrain to become, in 1996, the Head of UNDIO-ITPO.

Dr. Adel Kamal
Director, Business Incubator Centre, University of Bahrain

Dr. Adel Kamal graduated with a BSc (H) in Electronic Engineering from The City University, London, UK in 1981, Graduate Certificate in Education from University of Leeds, UK in 1982, MSc in Computer Engineering from University of Bradford, UK in 1983 and PhD in Control Engineering from University of Bradford, UK in 1987. Dr. Adel joined the University of Bahrain in 1987 and was the Chairman of the Department of Computer Engineering, College of IT, from 2006 to 2010 and has been the director of the University knowledge-based Business Incubator Centre since then. He also worked at Monash University, Australia, for some time as the subject coordinator for IT systems. He has many contributions to local and regional committees and organizations. He has always been a strong advocate of Technology based Business Incubators in Bahrain and is currently leading some of the University of Bahrain Entrepreneurship initiatives.

Mr. Nizar Cheniour
Director, Entrepreneurship Development, Khalifa Fund

Nizar Cheniour is in charge of Entrepreneurship Development Department with the objectives of creating an entrepreneurship culture through facilitating the establishment of new innovative SMEs and growing existing SME’s. He is also in charge of developing innovation programs and incubator networking strategy in Abu Dhabi in order to develop high impact generation of entrepreneurs in the Emirate. Prior to his current position, Mr. Cheniour was with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as Investment promotion expert promoting industrial projects in Tunisia, France and Italy. Mr. Nizar holds several degrees in Law, Finance, Administration and IT applied to Finance.

Mr. Mike Lewicki
BIET – Bahrain Institute of Entrepreneurship & Technology

Mike has worked in Bahrain for six years lecturing at the university level at the University College of Bahrain.  His specialization includes teaching courses in small business management, entrepreneurship, new venture creation and family entrepreneurship management amongst other subject areas.  Mike has also lectured in Bahrain at the Bahrain Institute of Entrepreneurship and Technology “Entrepreneurial Fit” which coaches idea generation to Bahrainis and how such ideas need to be a fit for these aspiring entrepreneurs.  Mike has worked previously for a major Canadian entrepreneurial startup raising funds through an Initial Public Offering in the agriculture oilseeds sector and on two business turnarounds in Europe.  Mike has recently worked on the launch, including editorial contributions, of the famous Kotler Armstrong, Principles of Marketing, Arab World edition textbook where businesses such as BBK and BISB were showcased.

Dr. Mohammed Al Asoomi
Economic Consultant-UAE

Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al-Assoumi is an expert in economic affairs and specialist in economic and social development in the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. From 2003 to 2006, he was Economic Advisor with Dubai Executive Office. Earlier, he served as Manager of the Economic Research Section of the Emirates Industrial Bank in Dubai (1985-2001), and as an Economist at the UAE Ministry of Planning (1983-1985).
Dr. Al-Assoumi has published several studies on the subject of economic and social development in the GCC countries, including Industrial Development in the Arab Gulf States in Light of Globalization, Determinants and Prospects of GCC Economic Integration, Current and Prospective Foreign Direct Investment in Bahrain and the Role of Trade in Establishing Urban Centers in GCC Countries.

Dr. Tariq Habib

Dr. Tariq Ali Habib is a professor and a psychiatric specialist at the College of Medicine and Hospitals at the University of King Saud in Riyadh. Dr. Tariq has a Masters in Surgery from the King Saud University, and he continued his higher education in psychiatric medicine, earning degrees in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Saudi Arabia. His scientific interests include treating emotional disorders and skills in dealing with stress, as well as the connection between religion and mental health.
Dr. Tariq has published many scientific papers locally and internationally, accumulating to about 40 research papers. He is a member of many psychiatric unions, Internationally and in the Arab world.

Mr. Raman Jaggi
Consultant Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development

Raman Jaggi has to his credit rich experience of about 26 years in the field of entrepreneurship and SME development. He obtained his post bachelor diploma in management in 1985. He has worked at various positions with apex entrepreneurship institute in India and subsequently in Bahrain on international assignments. He worked with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Bahrain as Business Development Expert during 2000-2001. From 2001 to December 2011 he worked with Bahrain Development Bank, Bahrain as Vice President, Business Advisory. As Head of BDB Business Advisory Unit, his expertise was used for promoting entrepreneurship and SME development in the Kingdom of Bahrain through training, business counseling and business support services. Since January 2012, he is working with Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development as a Consultant and involved in capacity building of business counselors and further strengthening the branch network of the fund across UAE.

Dr. Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Hargan

Dr Abdulaziz Alhargan has been involved in the early stages of the development of the technology incubation industry in Saudi Arabia through his role as the Implementation Project Manager of KACST’s first technology Incubator – BADIR-ICT. He subsequently became the Deputy Executive Director and in 2009 the Executive Director of BADIR-ICT in its early operational stage. Whilst continuing in his role with BADIR-ICT, Dr Abdulaziz has been given the broader role as Director of the BADIR Program for Technology Incubation. Mr. Alan Barrell

Professor Alan Barrell has spent almost 30 years in senior executive positions in technology based industries and has become one of Cambridge’s most articulate promoters of entrepreneurship. He is Entrepreneur in Residence at the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Bedfordshire School of Graduate Business Studies and the Shanghai College of Science and Technology.  Professor Barrell currently chairs the East of England NHS Strategic Innovations Council, Health Enterprise East Limited and the Senior Advisory Board of the National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs, which has recruited more than 40,000 members since its formation less than a year ago. Ms. Kashmira Mewawala

Mrs. Kashmira Mewawala has rich experience of 27 years in the Financial Services field as a part of the TATA Group. Currently, she is Senior Vice-President and Head – Business Development with TATA Capital, the flagship financial services company of the Tata Group. Kashmira is a part of the founding team at Tata Capital. She set up and headed the Wealth Management business, before moving to head the Business Development Group. Over the years she has been closely involved with many new initiatives of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and was actively associated with some of the path-breaking changes in the Indian Securities Market. She was a member of the apex Committee, constituted by SEBI, for the Depository System in India, a member of the Operations Advisory Committee of Central Depository Services (India) Limited and a member of the Group constituted by the RBI to drive the implementation and use of the Electronic Clearing system for dividend payouts and other corporate actions.

H.E. Dr. Yousif Al-Ebraheem

Dr Yousef Al-Ebraheem has held a number of ministerial and academic positions throughout his career. Mr. Hussain Ismail
Deputy Director, BIBF

Hussain Ismail is the Deputy Director at BIBF. His role is to support the Director in the development and implementation of the strategic plans and policies, and to provide leadership and direction to the BIBF centres and departments when required.
Hussain has nearly 30 years working experience in the corporate and financial sector having begun his career with Aluminum Bahrain (ALBA) in 1971 and spent nearly eleven years in various positions within the company. His leadership roles included Shift Supervisor, Production Superintendent and Production Manager leading the entire production department and responsible for 140 staff and production of 150,000 metric tons of aluminum.

Dr. Subhadra Ganguli
Head, Centre for Banking

Dr Subhadra Ganguli is the Head of Centre – Banking. She joined BIBF in 2004 as a Lecturer in the Centre for Banking, became Head of Quality Assurance in 2008 before the shift back to head of Centre in 2011. She has completed her B.Sc in Economics (Hons) from Presidency College, India and M.A in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. She has earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California in Riverside, USA in 2003. Her areas of specialization are: Applied Micro and Macroeconomics and Applied Econometrics.
Dr Ganguli has both academic and work experience over the last 16 years including as a lecturer in Economics at different colleges (including Presidency College) in India prior to her studies in the USA; the University of California as a Teaching Assistant; and taught in the University of California as a lecturer in Economics.
